The Natural Beauties of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is Unique in Natural Beauties. The trees, bushes, green fields, rivers, flowers, birds, fruits, the sea, hills, lakes and water bodies, which mould the beauties and charms of Bangladesh are part and parcel of natural beauties. They are inseparable and shape the life, living and character of Bangladeshi. Bangladesh’s six seasons with their distinct gift and graces, perhaps no country in the globe, can boast of it, make a diversified panorama.

Nature has gifted Bangladesh with rich bounties. Man’s hand as in the west has done little to her beauty. Everywhere there is greenery. The verdure trees, grass, shrubs, paddy fields pervade her. Seasonal greenness also contributes a good deal. Rivers and rivulets flowing amist the green landscape enhance the charms of Bangladesh. Again, nature is lavish in diversifying our motherland with woods, and forests in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Modhupur and the Sundarbans, the sea beachesat Cox’s Bazar (the world’s largest beach) all have unified to beautify Bangladesh. Kua-Kata is another sea beach of famous for enjoyment of sunrise and sunset. Rangamati and Bandarbans have no like in such varied scense, lakes, the streams and brooks, flowing on both sides woody mountains in particular. Rangamati, I feel, surpasses the beauties of Kashmir called the earthly of the East and Switzerland of the West, especially in its pervading greenery. As an integral part of nature, rivers increase its loveliness. The Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna with their tributaries and distributaries, a good number of canals wash all over Bangladesh. Rivers in strong current, the sunrise, the sunset, the wanderings by the sides of rivers are creators of particular beauty, joy and excitement. Rivers, canals, and canal mouths totaling 1,55,600 hectares of the Sundarbans magnify the attractiveness of the Sundarbans.

In grace, forms, fragrance and variety of colours, flowers are the splendor of nature. They diversify the greenness of Bangladesh with a special beauty, charm and handsome shape, smell and delicacy. The birds of our country are unparalleled and colours. They with their motley of colours, sizes, sounds cries and melodious notes enrich the charms of nature. The contribution of our unique wealth of fruits is remarkable for the bright greenness and hues. The vegetables kingdom is strikingly luxuriant. So also are their colours and forms. All add to the conspicuousness of the spectrum of natural beauties.
In the perspective of natural beauties, some seasonal ones deserve special mention to underline the diversities of the landscape. Spring is a season of life awakening of budding and sprouting, of bees and butterflies moving from plant to plant amidst blowing of sweet southerly breezes. Trees, plants put on new leaves. Flowers of various kinds, gada, surjamukhi, dalia, poppy, pansy, pituia and so on, beautify the spring and make the air balmy and fragrant. Melodious songs of the cuckoo and fascinating words of Bau Katha Kaw transport us to a situation of romantic tales. The rainy season presents a spectacle well watered, highly productive and of luxuriant growth of greenery and crops under a sky often overcast with black clouds. The clouds begin rolling slowly across the sky, then swiftly along with the violent wind, lightning sparkles the dark sky and thunder roars from behind it. The dark firmament overhead appears threatening, the earth is enveloped in darkness. Beginning in drizzles, the rains pour down heavily hours together, continue at times all day or a week with intervals of drizzles and light fall of rains. The thirsty and baked earth, nay, the whole nature, it seems, ends the torture of the extremely hot days of summer. Fields after fields and low land go under water. Water, water is every where. Aquatic life is rejuvenated. Fishes moving hither and thither look sportive and joyous. Trees, plants attain a new life. Many poets such as Kalidas, Rabindra Nath Taqure, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Jasimuddin have composed poems about the cloud or the season. We are transported to a state of indifference to worldly desires and objects.

“A thing of beauty is a joy for ever”, John Keats. Natural beauties being so give us eternally great gladness, excitement, odour and decoration. They have enriched us. They please us, refresh our eyes and mind. As beauty is coeval with purity it strikes our soul with a heavenly light. It transports us to an unknown enraptured haven. Our artistic make-up is natural beauties’ matchless gift. We are spontaneous lovers of nature. Many of us are poets. We are lovers of songs, many of us are singers. We have baul, bhatiali, bhawaiya, gazal, marfati, murshidi, hamd, nath, adhunik songs, Rabindra sangeet and Nazrul geeti, that speak of our diverse traits particularly of our other worldliness and sensitiveness to mysterious forces around and above us. The natural beauties especially of the different seasons move deeply Bangladesh with distinct moods, emotions and attitudes. And they have refined upon our acuteness and intensity.
